About Mrs. Suong Nguyet Anh’s family
Ms. Suong Nguyet Anh was born on March 8, 1864 in An Binh Dong village, Ben Tre province. Her father is the poet Nguyen Dinh Chieu. Poet Nguyen Dinh Chieu was also a teacher to Ms. Suong Nguyet Anh to read and write in Chinese and Nom. Besides journalism, Ms. Suong Nguyet Anh is also a poet. Poet-teacher Nguyen Dinh Chieu died in 1888, when Mrs. Suong Nguyet Anh was 24 years old. Suong Nguyet Anh and General Women’s (Nu Gioi Chung) Newspaper
In 1917, Ms. Suong Nguyet Anh was invited by a group of Vietnamese patriotic journalists to be the editor of Nu Gioi Chung. The newspaper’s title means “Women’s Bells”. She took the pseudonym Suong Nguyet Anh. This newspaper talks about the role of women in Vietnamese culture and society at that time.
Because she is a talented female singer and has many contributions to society, Ms. Suong Nguyet Anh was named after the street in some localities such as: Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat and Vung Tau today in Vietnam.
Suong Nguyet Anh General School for Girls in Ho Chi Minh City was established in 1971, was named after Ms. Suong Nguyet Anh.
